Make Your Own Website
How to make your own website.
When it comes to creating your first website, the majority of people are tempted to jump straight in and start laying content and images, advertising and widgets all over a blank web page in a mad rush to push the “publish” button. Nothing could be further from the truth however when it comes to the principles of good web design. Any decent web designer will tell you that to produce a high ranking, profitable web site, careful planning in the design stage is vital to the sites success.
This article will attempt to briefly describe some of the psychological design factors to consider when planning your site.
First things to consider are “Do I understand what a website is” and “do i understand my target market” simple questions you may think, but the answers may surprise you. Although there are websites on the internet that offer free quality content, these would appear to be the exception to the rule, as the average website is “monetised” to such a degree that one could be forgiven for believing it’s little more than an advertising catalogue, not unlike those we remove from our letter boxes and discard daily. And your target market? These are internet users searching for highly relevant information bases solely on your chosen niche, and that information has to be FREE information, no matter what the niche, lets read that again.. FREE information. Such is the proliferation of affiliate marketing offers, banner advertising, pop ups and Google Adsense, that the average surfer is bombarded with, and subsequently desensitised to this constant marketing ploy. The result being very low returns on investment and click through rates for those that believe these forms of aggressive marketing work.
Psychology In The Design Stage. With this in mind we can start to see unfold the generalised mindset and psychological foot print of the average internet user, and as such, we can plan to incorporate intelligent design and monetisation principles into our site, usually with exceptional results.
4 Steps To A Successful Site
Content – Traffic – Trust – Monetise
CONTENT Our First priority must always be content, your customers online whether you’re an affiliate marketer, product producer or Adsense advertiser, are after one thing, information. By over delivering free, relevant useful content within your niche, you create trust, confidence, and start to build a reputation as an authority within that niche.
TRAFFIC It goes without saying that without traffic a website will not convert, there are numerous methods for traffic generation ranging from article marketing through to link exchanges and social book marking, all of which move beyond the realm of this article but are spoken about in depth through my site.
TRUST Your aim in the design stage should be to develop trust and confidence within your chosen niche market. In short, this is done via providing high quality, valuable, relevant and appropriate editorial content. Write content that has your potential markets best interests at heart and give it to them freely, an honest approach to helping people will open up potential customers to your offer, and is a very rewarding way to live life in general. Psychologically we can all sense when someone doesn’t have our best interests at heart. So be honest, respect and trust are earnt and will pay dividends in the form of loyal repeat visitors to your site, visitors that will trust you enough to consider any offers you think they may benefit from.
MONETISE Whatever you’re selling, the key to monetisation lies in building relationships based on trust and respect within your niche. Again, this is done via providing quality information and over delivering. From there it’s just a matter of suggesting quality products to your niche market, products that serve a purpose, solve a problem, or make life easier. It’s worth noting here that trust and respect take time to earn and just seconds to destroy, so act morally and have faith that what you offer is of value and you may just retain your customers for life.
